Some exciting news for our Athletics community on this Monday morning! Wayne McMahon has been named as a member of the 2026 Inductee Class to the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame, as both an Athlete and a Builder.
This incredible honour will be celebrated at the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame annual induction ceremony which will take place on Thursday, October 29, 2026, at 7:30 p.m. at the Victoria Inn in Winnipeg.
This year’s inductees are:
- Don Duguid Athlete – Curling
- Mandy Marchak – Athlete – Rugby
- Diane Pidskalny-Hrychuk – Athlete – Multi-Sport
- Wayne McMahon – Athlete-Builder – Athletics
- Vlastimil Černý – Builder – Swimming
- Team Jennifer Jones (2005-2010) – Team – Curling
Wayne McMahon – Athlete-Builder – Athletics
From his early days as a competitor, earning a Canadian Junior Championship in the 3000m steeplechase and representing Manitoba at the Canada Games, to decades of coaching and development, Wayne McMahon is the definition of an athlete-builder. A physical education teacher by trade, McMahon has spent more than 50 years leveraging his talents and knowledge to build up generations of Manitoban track and field athletes. A Sport Manitoba Coach of the Year, four-time winner of the Athletics Manitoba Coach of the Year, and recipient of Queen Elizabeth II’s Golden Jubilee Medal, Wayne McMahon has been steadfast in helping Manitoba athletics run – in every sense of the word.

July 20, 2026 (WINNIPEG, MB) – On behalf of our Board of Directors and Selection Committee, the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame is excited to announce the Class of 2026.
Selected from a highly competitive slate of candidates, this year’s inductees represent some of Manitoba’s best and brightest athletes and builders, from curling icons and multi-sport masters to a swim guru, an athletics advocate, and a rugby superstar.
“This exceptional group of inductees has made a tremendous impact on their sports through their talent, spirit, and drive,” said Jeff Palamar and Don MacDonald, Co-Chairs of the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame. “They elevated those around them through displays of perseverance and success. This incredible class of 2026 has earned the thanks and recognition of all Manitobans for setting such an inspiring example by their achievements.”
