Before we get busy with the upcoming summer outdoor season, it’s time to celebrate the following Provincial Records that were broken during indoors!
Carter Heroux set a new U16 men’s 2000m record with his time of 6:10.07 at the Athletics MB Last Chance meet in December. The previous record of 6:23.06 was held by Haydn Lysiuk.
Jordyn Davis set a new U18 60m hurdle record at the WOA Winter Open. Her time of 8.92 broke the previous record of 9.03 set by Alyssa Johnson of Sisler High School in 2008.
Jaeda Liske broke the women’s U16 Pole Vault record at the Indoor Provincial Age Class Championships with a jump of 3.01m. The previous record was held by Carissa Gauthier of Winnipeg Optimist Athletics.
Earlier in the season, we shared that Annika DeSmet had broken the U18 1000m provincial record at Bison Classic. She then went on to break the U18 1500m record at the Indoor Provincial Age Class Championships. Her outstanding time of 4:32.27, breaks the 45 year old record previously held by Nancy Rettie of the Raiders Track Club. The previous record was 4:32.5
Kyla Findley finished off her time as a U16 athlete with a few records at the Athletics MB Last Chance meet in December. She broke the women’s U16 60m record with a time of 7.75. The previous record of 7.86 was from 2004, held by Chantal Grant of Winnipeg Optimist. That same weekend she also broke the U16 women’s 200m record with her time of 25.29. The previous record of 25.49 was held by Victoria Tachinski of Tough Track.
Kyla ended her indoor season, breaking the women’s U18 60m record at the Fighting Hawk Classic in Grand Forks, ND. Her time of 7.62 broke the previous record of 7.64 from 2011, which was held by Nelson McIntyre Alumni and Bison Track Club member Tegan Turner.
