Midget & Youth Provincial Team

In an effort to increase the effectiveness and scope of the Midget & Youth Provincial Team program the 2017 program will include additional rural outreach efforts, to help deliver Athletics to communities throughout the province, while simultaneously increasing athlete identification and coach development through the newly developed team Prep Squad.

Technical sessions will be run for targeted Prep Squad athletes on Sundays throughout the Winter, Spring, and Summer leading into the Western Canadian Challenge.  The targeted groups will be designed to support event groups and pathway development in some of the more technical events.  These include, Jumps, Throws, Hurdles, Steeple, and Pole Vault, where early technical introduction is highly beneficial and needed for developmental athletes.  This will ideally create a stepping stone in the pathway to Junior, Senior, and Varsity success.
The coach development goal of the updated program, is two fold; to identify and educate the next generation of Canada Summer Games level coaches as well as supporting rural coach development throughout the province.  This will be achieved by preparing the staff coaches both technically and administratively for the requirements of Canada Summer Games staff positions. Staff coaches will be identified through MB games, clubs and school programs.
Final team selection will take place at Age Class championships June 23 & 24.
All Prep Squad events and practices will be open to all interested Midget/Youth athletes.
Please note that the last open technical practice PRIOR to final team selection will be Sunday June 4th at 12pm, at the University of MB.  This is also the same date as the “Eating to Perform” Nutrition presentation.
