Day 3 – Final Day
Eric Guy (Winnipeg Optimist) earned his second bronze medal of the meet and Manitoba’s 5th medal in the 400m hurdles. Eric’s time was 53.67, not far off the Manitoba record of 53.0h set back in 1981.
Curtis Urniezius placed 4th in the Hammer with a toss of 56.33m and 4th in the Shot Put with a distance of15.73m
Samantha Allegro (Winnipeg Optimist) placed 4th in the Women’s Pole Vault with a vault of 3.50m and Alyssa Bewski (Winnipeg Optimist) place 11th with a vault of 2.90m.
The Winnipeg Optimist Men’s 4x100m team placed 5th with a time of 43.16. Team members were Eric Guy, Brayden Schindell, Levi Sader and Alhaji Mansaray.
Tamara Paetsch (Winnipeg Optimist) finished 7th in the Women’s High Jump with a jump of 1.60m.
Oyinko Akinsola (Winnipeg Optimist) and Joy Becker (Bison Athletic Club) both finished 10th in their respective Triple Jump.
Day 2
Eric Guy (Winnipeg Optimist) picked up Manitoba’s 3rd medal with a Bronze medal in the Men’s 110m hurdle final. His time was 14.45. The winning time was 14.34, so even though he didn’t win gold, Eric’s 14.16 time in the semi gives him the #1 ranking in Canada. Eric also ran the 400m hurdles semi finals, advancing to the final with a time of 55.05.
Alhaji Mansaray (Winnipeg Optimist) earned Manitoba’s 4th medal today with a Silver medal in the Men’s High Jump. Alhaji jumped 2.08m, which was the height jumped by the top 3 jumpers. Medals were decided by rules for breaking ties. Oyinko Akinsola (Winnipeg Optimist) jumped 1.95m for a 3 way tie for 7th.
Curtis Urniezius (Unattached) finished 4th in the Discus with a toss of 48.66m, and Wyatt Efford (Winnipeg Optimist) finished 5th in the men’s Decathlon with a personal best total of 6250 points. Ryan Croy (Winnipeg Optimist) finished 10th with a personal best total total of 5531 points.
Steven Bairos-Novak (Winnipeg Optimist) was 9th in men’s Pole Vault with a vault of 3.80m.
Joy Becker (Bison Athletic Club) won the Women’s Triple Jump qualifier with a jump of 10.72m and so will advance to the final.
Levi Sader (Winnipeg Optimist) and Brayden Schindell (Winnipeg Optimist) finished 15th and 19th in the 200m qualifier, and do not advance to the final.
Day 2 early results
Congratulations to Julia Zrinyi (SA Tough Track) and Joy Becker (Bison Athletic Club) on Manitoba’s first 2 medals at the Canadian Junior Championship.
Julia won Gold in the Women’s 1500m with at time of 4:18.53, which breaks the MB Junior women’s provincial record, and Joy won Silver in Long Jump with a jump of 5.59m
Eric Guy (Winnipeg Optimist) won his semi-final in the Men’s 110m hurdles with the fastest time of 14.16. This sets a new Manitoba Provincial Junior men’s record. The final goes later today.
Gee-ef Nkwonta (Winnipeg Optimist) jumped 12.81m in the Men’s triple jump qualifiers and doesn’t advance to the final.
Wyatt Efford had a personal best throw of 36.11m in the Discus and has moved into 2nd place after 2 events on day 2 of the Decalthlon. Ryan Croy dropped to 10th.
Day 1
Julia Zrinyi (SATT) had the fastest qualifying time in the Women’s 1500m semi-finals and advances to the final which will be run Saturday.
Wyatt Eyford (Winnipeg Optimist) finished Day 1 of the Decathlon with a total of 3426, which had him in 3rd place, and Ryan Croy (Winnipeg Optimist) had a total of 3163, which had him in 8th place.
Unfortunately Levi Sader (Winnipeg Optimist) was disqualified in the Men’s 400m final.
Some early results from Day 1:
Levi Sader (Winnipeg Optimist) advanced from the qualifying round of the 400m to the Championship semi-final, which will be run later today.
Wyatt Eyford (Winnipeg Optimist) is presently 3rd in the decathlon after 3 events, and Ryan Croy (Winnipeg Optimist) is in 9th place.
