We’d like to take a moment and share some noteworthy 2022 announcements and highlights that came up over the break!
Manitoba Coaches receive National Team appointments
Coaches Andy Tough and Ming Pu Wu were both named to Athletics Canada National Teams for the upcoming 2023 season!
- Andy will be a part of the 2023 World Pan Am U20 Championships Team heading to Mayagüez, PUR August 4 to 6.
- Andy is the Head Coach of Tough Track Club
- Ming will be a part of the 2023 FISU World University Games Team heading to Chengdu, China July 28 to August 8.
- Ming is a Provincial coach with Athletics MB
WFP Top 10 Sport Moments and Ace Burpee’s Most Fascinating Manitobans
Madisson Lawrence’s accomplishments at the 2022 Canada Summer Games earned her a couple of local media shout outs
- The Winnipeg Free Press recognized her record setting performance at the Games as #9 on their list of Top 10 Manitoba Sports Moments of 2022.
- Ace Burpee also recognized Madisson Lawrence as one of his Top 100 Most Fascination Manitobans for 2022.
You might also recognize a second name on Ace Burpee’s list – Dr. Tina Chen
- In 2022 Dr. Chen was named as the inaugural Executive Lead (Equity, Diversity and Inclusion) at the University of Manitoba
- Dr. Chen is also a member of the Winnipeg Foundation Board of Directors – and you can read her spotlight interview from Jan 2022 here.
- Dr. Chen is also mother to Ceci Howes (who is currently a member of the University of Minnesota Gophers Track and Field/Cross Country Team).
Athletics Manitoba coach returns to her skating roots with Disney on Ice!
Jaime Wong finally got the opportunity to perform in front of a home crowd on her current tour with Disney on Ice.
Jaime was a University of Manitoba Track and Field team member, and has coached with Dakota High School as well with the Stars Athletics Academy.
And one last reminder, Michael Kananoja has moved on to a new opportunity with Golf Canada. For the time being, both Alanna Boudreau and Brooke-Lynn Boyd are monitoring the programs@athleticsmanitoba.com email address and 5743 office phone extension.
