Athletics Manitoba is delighted to share the news that Oyinko Akinola has been selected as the new Club Coach & Technical Director for the Saint John Reds Track & Field Club in New Brunswick. He will be starting in the position in mid September.
“On behalf of the SJ Reds Board of Directors and members, we are very pleased to welcome Oyinko to our team”, states SJ Reds TFC President, Bill MacMackin. “His appointment follows an extensive process by the Selection Committee. His experience and skills stood out immediately amongst the many of high-quality applicants who applied.”
Oyinko has been an amazing part of our Athletics Manitoba community for a number of years. He is a University of Manitoba graduate in arts, a three-time U-Sports All-Canadian athlete, two-time U-Sports Silver Medalist in both High Jump and Triple Jump. He worked as an Athletics MB summer staff member organizing coaching clinics and delivering skill development clinics for youth ages 7-18 all over the Province. He coached and travelled with our U16/U18 Provincial team to various Tri-Province events, and was a consistent presence at both Legion Camp and Legion Nationals over the last 6 years. He has been an active volunteer coach with the Winnipeg Optimist Athletic Club in their jumps, power speed and hurdles programs and most recently he took on the role of Coaches Rep with the Athletics Manitoba’s Board of Directors.
Oyinko has truly become an integral part of our coaching team here in Manitoba and to say that we’ll miss seeing him around the track every day is an understatement. But more than anything, we are so very excited for him! This new opportunity will undoubtedly be a perfect fit and while we are sad to see him go, we also look forward to working with him in this new capacity!
From all of us at Athletics MB, good luck on your new adventure Oyinko!
