Day 6 – Final Day
The Canadian athletics team recorded two top eight finishes on the last day of competition at the 2012 World Junior Championships in Barcelona, Spain. The Canadian team recorded a bronze medal, two Canadian junior records, six top eights and 12 personal bests over the six day competition.
In the boy’s 800-metres final Brandon McBride of Windsor, Ont., placed sixth in a new Canadian junior record of 1:46.07.
The girl‘s 4×400-metres relay of Alexandra Courtnall of Victoria, B.C., Devan Wiebe of Vancouver, B.C., Julia Zrinyi of Winnipeg, Man., and Sage Watson of Medicine Hat, Alta., also finished sixth racing to a time of 3:37.84 in the final.
Canada’s podium finish at these World Junior Championships was won by Shawnacy Barber of Toronto, Ont., in the men’s pole vault with a Canadian junior record of 5.55 metres.

BARCELONA–Canada’s best finish on day five at the World Junior Athletics Championships came in the women’s 400-metre hurdles from Taylor Farquhar of Belmont, Ont., who placed seventh in a time of 58.77 seconds.
In the men’s 800-metres Brandon McBride of Windsor, Ont., qualified for tomorrow’s final in a time of 1:47.69 placing third in the third and fastest of the semi finals. Tyler Smith of Westaskiwin, Alta., finished in eighth place in semi final heat #1 in 1:54.95, he did not qualify for the final.
Also advancing to a final was the women’s 4×400-metres relay team. The team of Alexandra Courtnall of Victoria, B.C., Devan Wiebe of Vancouver, B.C., Julia Zrinyi of Winnipeg, Man., and Sage Watson of Medicine Hat, Alta., clocked in at 3:35.56 to place second in their heat behind Jamaica who took first in 3:34.96. The men’s 4x400m relay team finished fifth in their heat in 3:13.68 and did not advance to the final.
In the men’s 5000-metres final Aaron Hendrikx of Parkhill, Ont., finished in 16th place in a time of 14:29.97.
In the women’s 100-metre hurdles semi-final Deshaunda Morrison of Calgary, Alta., placed fifth in semi-final #3 in 14.03 seconds while Nicole Setterington of London, Ont., finished sixth in 13.99 seconds in the second semi final heat. Neither advanced to the final.

Day 4
Barcelona – Deshaundra Morrison (13.83) and Nicole Setterington (13.98) advanced to the 100m Hurdles semi final .
Brandon McBride wins his 800m heat in 1:49.77 and Tyler Smith finishes 3rd in his in 1:48.78. Both advance to the semi final.
In the heptathlon Georgia Ellenwood of Langley, B.C., established a new personal best of 5262 points finishing 18th overall.
Taylor Farquhar of Belmont, Ont., qualified for the 400-metre hurdles final placing third in the fastest of the three semi final heats. She clocked a new personal best of 57.82 seconds. The final is tomorrow at 8:45pm local time (2:45pm ET). Sage Watson of Medicine Hat, Alta., crossed the line in fourth in a personal best time of 58.04 seconds, but did not advance to the final.
The boy’s 4×100-metres relay team finished fourth in their heat. The team of Devon Rittinger of Kitchener, Ont., Drelan Bramwell of Sarnia, Ont., Mobolade Ajomale of Richmond Hill, Ont., and Calvin Arsenault of Kitchener, Ont., clocked in at 40.58 seconds.

Day 3
Shawncy Barber wins Bronze medal in the men’s pole vault with a height of 5.55m, which is a new Canadian Junior Record.
Sage Watson & Taylor Farquhar both advanced to the women’s 400m hurdle semi-final.
Marlon Laidlaw-Allen advanced from the heat to the semi in the men’s 200m, but didn’t make it through to the final. The same goes for Shai-Anne Davis in the women’s 200m.
Heptathlete Georgia Ellenwood is in 19th place after Day 1, with personal bests in all 4 of her Day 1 events.
Jordan Young placed 6th in the men’s Discus final with a throw of 60.44m
Day 2
Khamica Bingham place 4th in the women’s 100m final with a personal best time of 11.46.
James Turner placed 18th in the decathlon with a personal best total of 7017, only 63 points off the Canadian Junior record. James had personal bests in 8 of his 10 events.
Neither of our women 800m runners advanced to the final. Julia placed 8th in her section and Devan was 5th in her section with a PB of 2:05.40.
Day 1
Julia Zrinyi advanced to the semi-finals in the 800m at the World Junior Championship. Julia finished 2nd in her section with a time of 2:06.64 to automatically qualify for the semis. Devan Wiebe of Vancouver also advanced to the semi by wining her section in a time of 2:07.04.

The 14th IAAF World Junior Championships began Tuesday in Barcelona, Spain with a contingent of 46 Canadian athletes ready to battle with the best junior (under 20 years of age) athletes in the world.
Julia Zrinyi of Winnipeg will compete in the first round of the 800m on Day 1.
