As we gear up for the indoor season, we wanted to make sure that we offered an in-person Officials recruitment/orientation session! While we certainly can’t cover all the rules at once, this will be a great opportunity to meet, chat and help!
The session will be held at 5pm on Friday Nov 26th at the James Daly fieldhouse, at the University of MB. We’ll review the different opportunities and pathways for officials and most importantly, you’ll get the chance to get in on the action, helping out with the University of MB Brown and Gold Intra-squad competition. Competition starts at 6pm, and events often run until 9pm. You are certainly NOT required to stay for the whole evening.
- 5pm – 5:30pm
- Welcome, Introductions, Review event group areas and roles, intro to the upgrading process for Level 1 and 2 and 3.
- 5:30pm – 5:45pm
- Event specific orientation and set up.
- 6pm – 9pm
- Competition*
- *Again we realize that not everyone will be able to stay for the whole evening! There will also be University team coaches and athletes assisting with the events.
This will be a FUN and INFORMAL event, where you can get to know a few members of the community and learn some basics!
If you are interested in attending, please sign up here so we know who to expect!
Reminder – In accordance with public health restrictions, proof of COVID-19 vaccination status and government-issued identification is required at the entry of all UM sport and recreation facilities. And the wearing of 3-ply masks is mandatory on all UM campuses. This applies when indoors at all times on UM campuses even when physical distancing is possible.
Finally, if you haven’t already taken the online officiating courses – they are a great place to start!
Officials 101 is targeted towards brand new volunteers with little to no track and field experience.
Officials 201 is targeted towards more experienced volunteers with some previous knowledge, as well as athletes and coaches.
Both courses have now been set up through the Coaching Association of Canada and are housed in the Coach.ca Locker. Individuals will need to create an account (FREE) to access the courses. Contact the office if you have any questions!
Hope to see you there!
