University of Manitoba – Indoor Training Update
Our REVISED target for starting our Indoor Exclusive Use training hours, is now Monday October 19th.
The University of Manitoba is currently waiting to receive specific insurance and waiver instructions from their insurance agency before things are able to proceed. External users like us (Athletics MB) are not able to use the UM Facilities until these requirements are in place. They are working to get this resolved as timely as possible!
In the meantime, we have been working to establish a schedule and an updated set of procedures and protocols for the facility to allow us to train under the new facility capacity restrictions. These plans will be distributed to our Coaches and Clubs and posted on our website as soon as they are finalized.
All athletes and coaches must continue to self screen using the Shared Health Screening Tool before EVERY practice.
*General equipment use and cleaning protocols will remain the same as outdoors and will follow the National Back on Track guidelines.*
Important Message from Public Health
Sport MB received an important message from Public Health today (Thursday, Oct 8th, 2020) acknowledging the importance of physical activity, but also reminding us of the risks.
Please take a moment to read the full message on our website – HERE.
Performance Pathway Funding
Due to the… different… nature of the 2020 season, our regular Performance Pathway athlete funding program had to be temporarily put on hold.
Now, in order to take into account the extraordinary circumstances of the COVID19 pandemic which severely impacted the ability of our athletes to train and compete, the Board of Directors has agreed that the best way to proceed with the program for 2020 is simply for the majority of 2019 funded athletes to be transferred to the same level of support for 2020.
In other words, we will essentially be repeating the funding that was distributed to athletes last fall.
The same group of athletes who qualified for funding last year, based on their 2019 outdoor performances, will automatically qualify for that same level of funding this year. (Athletes who may have “aged up” into a new category, will still be considered at the previous year’s age category). No additional athletes will be added to the program this year.
There will be one an additional requirement that all athletes MUST have renewed their membership for the 2020/2021 season.
Full program details and claim forms will be updated and shared on our website by the end of the month.

We are going to be looking to engage members of our community with an UPDATED awards committee.
