As we begin to near the end of 2021, it has given us some time to reflect on what has been done in the past and what can be built for the future. November has historically been the month where we celebrate the past year of accomplishments during our annual awards banquet. With many of the meets through out the last year suspended, we wanted to revamp the celebration this year. We will not be hosting an awards banquet this year, however that does not mean we will not be highlighting past achievements. Here are some of the things to look forward to over the next month:
Athletics Manitoba Hall of Fame
The Board and Staff of Athletics Manitoba is pleased to announce the creation of the Athletics Manitoba Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame will celebrate the incredible athletes, coaches, and builders of our sport here in Manitoba.
Manitoba Runners Association Hall of Fame
We are pleased to announce that the MRA Hall of Fame Plaques have a new home in the James Daly Fieldhouse! The University of Manitoba was extremely supportive of this relocation plan, and we look forward to working with both the MRA and the U of M as we begin redesigning and updating a new longer term display for both of our organizations!
All-Time Top 10 Rankings
One of the many projects that our summer students were able to tackle this summer was to comb through our old results and records to compile the top 10 rankings for each event! This will be an ongoing project and will certainly require support from the community.
Throwback Thursdays
We have recently found a goldmine of retro photos and news clippings that we will be posting weekly on our social media accounts. We may need your help identifying some of these past superstars! This will be part of a larger digitization project.
Most Improved Celebrations
While it wasn’t a full season, there were still some fantastic results and accomplishments this summer that deserve recognition. We will be highlighting these with a series of social media posts that celebrate some of the amazing improvements athletes (and coaches!) have made throughout the pandemic.
Masters Records
The Athletics Manitoba Masters Committee has been busy compiling the records for masters athletes. Broken up into 5 year age brackets, masters athletes have new opportunities to set personal and provincial bests as they age!
