In March, Athletics Canada released and distributed the updated Canadian Athlete Performance Pathway (CAPP). It is an in-depth document that outlines in detail how Athletics Canada will track, identify and support their High Performance athletes moving forward.
The full document, as prepared by Simon Nathan (the Athletics Canada High Performance Director) can be viewed here. We strongly encourage everyone to review the document as it does a very good job of explaining the different stages of the pathway.
There is also an interim transition period where the previously named “Next Gen” program will be phased INTO the overall CAPP program. Rather than acting as a stand-alone athlete identification program, the Next Gen principles are being integrated to form one cohesive pathway.
Back in November of 2017, Athletics Canada had released the updated Next Gen standards. (These standards can be viewed here) Over the past few years, these standards have served as the basis for our Athletics Manitoba Performance Pathway funding. Due to the staffing changes and transition period that followed, we are just now able to update the 2018 Performance Pathway funding standards. While the basic principles of the Performance Pathway funding program will remain the same, these updated standards will be finalized and published by May 15th (earlier if possible).
