Dear Members,
The updated Provincial Health Orders have been finalized. These Orders are effective as of 12:01 a,m. on June 26, 2021, and remain in effect until 12:01 a.m. on August 2, 2021, unless they are terminated earlier.
Basically what it comes down to is that we have good news and… some less good news…
The good!
16(2) Outdoor organized sports and recreation activities may reopen for groups up to 25 people, with no tournaments allowed.
16(3) Organized practices, games and competitions may take place at an outdoor sporting facility but the operator of an outdoor sporting facility must ensure that no multi-team tournaments take place at the facility.
The following clarification has been provided by Sport Manitoba:
- The group of 25 participants DOES NOT include coaches or officials. So, an outdoor sport activity can include 25 athletes, plus coaches and officials.
- In addition to the group of 25 participants, you are allowed up to 25 spectators, physically distanced by at least 2 metres, as per the outdoor gathering size limit for public spaces.
As noted in our previous communication, Clubs and training groups can resume training in public spaces, or at various available facilities, in groups as of June 26th. As long as you follow the group size restrictions and CONTINUE TO FOLLOW PHYSICAL DISTANCING PROTOCOLS, as well as all other previously established return to sport protocols from the national Back on Track guidelines.
Athletics Manitoba will also be able to resume booking Exclusive Use training times at the University of Manitoba Outdoor Stadium, as of July 5th.
Now the less good news.
Unfortunately there will be additional restrictions put in place by the University of Manitoba.
- No more than 25 persons requirement at any one time (NO multiple groups)
- Everyone involved must wear a 3-ply disposable or reusable mask (indoor and outdoor).
- Competitions may take place, but would still need to follow the 25 participants limit.
To be abundantly clear, these restriction are directly from the University of Manitoba.
Athletics Manitoba will be working with our Clubs and Coaches next week to sort what this will mean for our training and competition schedule. AND we will also be working to schedule options at alternate facilities!
Nothing has been simple or straightforward this year, and it looks like that trend will continue throughout the rest of the summer.
For now we will chose to be thankful that you can all at least return to group training tomorrow, and we will tackle these new challenges next week!
As always, we truly appreciate your patience and support.
Take care and enjoy the weekend!
