Congratulations to Manitoba athletes on their medal winning performances on Sunday, the last day of the Canadian Junior Championships. Manitoba athletes picked up 6 medals on the final day.
Julia Zrinyi won Gold in the women’s 800m final in a time of 2:07.61 and was also a member of the Stride Ahead Tough Track 4x400m relay team which won Gold. Other members of the relay team were Amy Andrushko, Janine Zajac and Melanie Baran.
Alhaji Mansaray won Gold in the men’s High Jump with a personal best jump of 2.08m. Steven Olson picked up the bronze medal with a jump of 2.00m.
Amy Graceffo took the Bronze medal in the women’s heptathlon with a Manitoba provincial record total of 4712 points. Amy was leading after her personal best performance in the javelin, and despite running a PB in the final event, the 800m, finished 3rd, only 21 points behind the winner, and 10 points behind 2nd place.
Winnipeg Optimist Athletics also picked up a Bronze medal in the women’s 4x100m Club relay event with a time of 48.15. Members of that team were, Tyra Duma, Sasanie Wanigasekara, Mallory Waters and Katie Staub.

Also a huge ‘Congratulations’ to the Organizing Committee on a job well done for the second year in a row. With the co-operation of the weather (the storm waited till we were finished) and all the volunteers that stepped up and helped out at the meet, it was a huge success, with many fine performances, including a Canadian Junior record and 2 Championship meet records. It was a great experiences for our up and coming Canadian athletes. Well done!
