About Us

Athletics Manitoba is the provincial sport governing body for track and field, cross country and road running in Manitoba.

Athletics Manitoba (The Manitoba Track and Field Association), incorporated in 1978, dedicates itself to the development of Track and Field, Cross-Country and Road Running in Manitoba. We are a volunteer driven, athletics focused, not for profit organization who operates in a fiscally responsible way.
Athletics Manitoba programs are conducted in all seven 7 regions of Manitoba. The programs represent the full range of skill development from entry level through developmental and high performance for athletes, coaches and officials.

Athletics Manitoba is a leading participant at the Manitoba Games, Western Canada Summer Games and Canada Summer Games. Regional involvement is experiencing noteworthy growth through our highly successful Run,Jump,Throw program, and the Hershey Program which reach thousands of participants between April and August. Athletics Manitoba Hershey Regional Qualifiers are conducted every year on a regional basis, with qualifiers advancing to the Hershey Provincial Championships. From that meet, athletes are chosen to advance to the North America Hershey Track & Field Games in Hershey, PA.

The Power Smart Manitoba Summer Games are also a highlight of the summer regional program every four years.

Increased collaboration between schools and clubs continues to develop and the banner program for the Elementary Relays has proven to be tremendously popular.

Athletics Manitoba gains exposure in the community by actively encouraging members to strive for involvement in the Sport Manitoba and Athletics Canada Boards of Directors. The Directors that have been elected to these Boards are excellent conduits of information and are advocates for Athletics Manitoba.

We have enhanced our communication within the Organization through our newly developed web page, www.athleticsmanitoba.com, Electronic communication has evolved to be a key method of reaching our membership in both a timely and cost effective way.

Competitors of all ages and abilities, representing the wide range of disciplines of the sport, have opportunity to regularly train, develop and compete together. In keeping with this endeavor, Athletics Manitoba consistently opens our competitions to the Disabled Sports and Special Olympics Association. The Manitoba Athletics Athlete Council, through its permanent position on the Board of Directors, provides direct feedback from the athletes.

Athletics Manitoba hosts first class competitive opportunities by working closely with its corporate partners. Our national reputation for managing quality national and international events is sustained through major events such as the Timex Road Race Series, the Boeing Indoor Classic, the Bison Classic, the Canadian Championships and Pan American Games. We provide support and resources to others such as the World Championships, Indigenous Games and the Western Canada Summer Games.

Athletics Manitoba has honored the contribution of Dave Lyon that traces back almost 40 years. The Razorback Track and Field Club produced one of the strongest teams of its day. Athletes from that era have returned to the sport as coaches and organizational volunteers. A fund has been established in Dave Lyons name holding the $36,000 profit from the 1999 Senior National Championships. These funds will accrue interest and help our members in the years to come.

In addition to developing long term relationships through corporate event sponsorship, Athletics Manitoba fosters healthy growth and development through a variety of strong and stable partnerships. These partnerships continue to strengthen our foundation and our profile within the broader Manitoba community. These factors in concert with a vibrant, committed board of directors augur well for the future of athletics in Manitoba.
